Color & Balayage
in Royersford, PA
For over 20 years, Salon Evolve has been Royersford's trusted destination for custom hair color and balayage. Our experienced colorists — including several with specialized balayage and color-correction training — take a fully personalized approach to every appointment, from a first-time root touch-up to a complete color transformation. Whether you're covering gray, going lighter, or trying balayage for the first time, we start with a conversation about your hair, your lifestyle, and your maintenance goals before ever picking up a brush.
Color and balayage aren't the same service, and the right choice depends on the look and upkeep you want. Highlights are applied with foils for more uniform, defined color and a crisper regrowth line, which typically calls for a retouch every 4–8 weeks. Balayage is hand-painted directly onto the hair, concentrating color through the mid-lengths and ends for a soft, sun-kissed gradient that grows out naturally — most clients stretch 10–16 weeks between full balayage sessions. Many guests blend the two techniques for a fully custom result. All of our color and balayage services are priced à la carte from a haircut or blow-dry, and every appointment begins with a consultation so we can recommend the right technique, timeline, and price range for your hair.
* Please note the services listed below DO NOT include a blow-dry or haircut. A blow dry and/or haircut is an à la carte service and must be scheduled separately.

Color and Balayage FAQ
Q: What's the difference between balayage and highlights?
A: Highlights are applied using foils, which creates more uniform, defined color from root to end. Balayage is a hand-painted, freehand technique that places color more heavily toward the mid-lengths and ends, creating a softer, more natural gradient with a lower-maintenance grow-out. Many clients combine the two — foiled highlights near the part with balayage through the rest of the hair — for a fully custom result.
Q: How often should I get my color or balayage refreshed?
A: Root color retouches are typically scheduled every 4–8 weeks depending on how quickly your natural color grows in and how much contrast you're comfortable seeing at the root. Balayage is designed to grow out softly, so most clients stretch 10–16 weeks between full balayage appointments, often with a toner or gloss refresh in between.
Q: Does a color or balayage service include a haircut or blow-dry?
No — color and balayage services are priced separately from haircuts and blow-drys. If you'd like a cut or style finish added to your color appointment, let us know when booking so we can allot the right amount of time.
Q: How long does a balayage appointment take?
A: A full balayage appointment, including the hand-painting process, processing time, and toner, typically takes 2.5 – 4 hours depending on your hair's length, thickness, and desired result. Partial balayage is generally quicker. Your stylist will give you a more precise estimate at consultation.
Q: I have color from a previous salon that I don't love — can you fix it?
A: Yes. Our Correctional / Transformational Color service is designed specifically for this — whether you're dealing with brassy tones, uneven color, or a result that didn't match what you asked for. Corrective work is priced hourly and always starts with an in-person consultation so we can assess your hair and build the right plan.
Q: Is organic color less damaging to my hair?
A: Our organic, ammonia-free color line is formulated to be gentler on the hair while still delivering rich, vibrant, long-lasting results. It's a great option for clients with sensitivity to traditional color processing or anyone looking for a healthier approach to coloring.
Q: Do I need a consultation before booking a color or balayage service?
A: First-time color and balayage guests are encouraged to add detailed notes (hair length, thickness, current color, and desired result) when booking online, or to book an in-person consultation for anything complex, like a major color change or correction. This helps us allot the right amount of time and recommend the most accurate service and pricing.
